ABC Like a Girl is out!
We’re very excited about it, since it is not only a book that portrays women and girls in a positive way to children from an early age, but also promotes literacy by teaching the alphabet and building a larger vocabulary!
Each letter of the alphabet is represented by multiple drawings depicting both role models and lots of positive attributes!
The ideas promoted in ABC Like a Girl are ones that are relevant to any gender and age: empowerment, community-mindedness, self love, and the tools to achieve our goals.
The book showcases Super-Star people like Astronaut Ellen Ochoa, talks about the contributions of Just women who work on the Supreme Court, and tackles ideas like Tenacious and Healthy and some steps we can take in how to be that way if we want to be!
Not only that, but ABC Like A Girl really seeks to represent many different kinds of women and girls, from girls with glasses, girls who like to dress in dresses and wear bows, girls who have short hair and wear pants, girls who have dark skin, girls who have light skin, even girls who have albinism.
We have women in wheelchairs or with prosthetic limbs, all continuing to do their own thing and accomplish the things they want in life and be just as much a role model as any one else.
We have young and old women, Indigenous Women, Immigrant Women, and even a woman who was a slave a long time ago when she did her job saving people’s lives. We have women who stand up and make their voices heard, and women who stand up and protect other women.
The book may seem long at 112 pages, but the way it’s set up, it’s easy to get lost exploring and it doesn’t seem like a chore to read. It’s not plot-driven, so it’s easy for kids to pick up and put down as they want or need, and still come back later and have more to discover. It’s a book that will stay interesting and fun for a long time, even to younger kids.
Also, we already have some free downloadable material available for this book with more to come. Eventually we hope to have more coloring book pages, and possibly even teacher/parent teaching tools! We’ll keep you updated as those come out! 🙂
No matter who you are, in this book there is something for you!
